    The Big Question

Do you even need a car?

Short answer: yes. Disney and Universal offer shuttle services, but they run on their schedule, not yours. And once you factor in Uber and Lyft costs, a rental car pays for itself quickly.

A typical Uber from MCO airport to the Disney area costs $25-$40. A round trip to the parks from a vacation rental in Kissimmee runs $30-$50 per day. Over a 7-day trip, that's $210-$350 just in ride-share costs — and you're still waiting for pickups in the Florida heat after exhausting park days.

With a rental car, you have complete freedom: leave for the parks when you want, take a midday break at your hotel, drive to a restaurant off-property for dinner, hit the outlets, or take a day trip to Cocoa Beach. The flexibility alone is worth it, and the math makes it a clear winner.

    For Couples

    Sedan or compact SUV

Traveling as a couple or with one child? Keep it simple and comfortable.

    Sedan

Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Sonata, or Kia K4. Great fuel economy, easy to park, comfortable for two people and 2-3 suitcases. Best value option.

    Compact SUV

Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, or Nissan Rogue. Slightly more space for luggage and shopping bags. Higher driving position for better visibility on unfamiliar roads.

Our pick for couples: A compact SUV like the Tucson gives you the perfect balance of comfort, trunk space for outlet shopping, and fuel efficiency.

    For Families of 4-5

    Mid-size SUV or minivan.

This is where most families land, and the choice matters. A family of four with two kids, a stroller, and four suitcases will be tight in a sedan. You need either a mid-size SUV or a minivan.

Mid-size SUV (Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Jeep Compass): Fits 5 passengers and 3-4 large suitcases. Good for families of 4 with moderate luggage. The third row in some models exists but is cramped — don't count on it for adults.

Minivan (Chrysler Pacifica, Kia Carnival, Toyota Sienna): Fits 7-8 passengers and 6-8 large suitcases. Sliding doors make loading kids in parking lots much easier. Dedicated climate zones keep everyone comfortable. After a 12-hour day at Magic Kingdom, the extra space is a lifesaver.

If you're on the fence, go minivan. Nobody has ever complained about having too much space on a theme park vacation. The cost difference is often just $15-$25/day, and the comfort upgrade is enormous.

    For Large Groups (6+)

    Minivan, Suburban, or Transit.

Traveling with 6 or more people — a multi-generational family, a friend group, or a sports team — requires serious space. Here are your options:

    Minivan (7-8 seats)

Chrysler Pacifica or Kia Carnival. Best for 6-7 people with luggage. Comfortable, fuel-efficient, easy to drive. Parking lot sliding doors are a huge plus.

    Chevy Suburban (7-8 seats)

More powerful, more rugged, more imposing. Great for 6-7 people who want premium space. Fits 5-7 large suitcases. Higher fuel costs but unmatched road presence.

    Ford Transit (12-15 seats)

The only real option for groups of 8+. Massive interior, fits all the luggage, and keeps the whole group together. One vehicle, one parking spot, one toll.

Pro tip: One large vehicle is almost always cheaper than two smaller ones when you add up rental fees, gas, parking ($30/car at Disney), tolls, and insurance.

    Arrive Early

Theme park lots fill front-to-back. Arriving before rope drop (park opening) gets you a closer spot and avoids the post-park walk when everyone is exhausted.

    Take a Photo

Always photograph your parking section and row number. After 10+ hours at a theme park with tired kids, the last thing you want is to wander a 10,000-space parking lot.

    Our Recommendation

    Large Groups (6+)
